The past few months have been crazy! To start the new year, we decided to take a major step towards our vision of being ‘the go-to no-code solution for custom-designed online communities’ by launching our community posting feature. Since launching, multiple users have made history by being the first to create forums within a Webflow site 🎉.
In addition to the community feature, we shipped some major improvements to our commenting and reviews features. To see what’s been brewing, read on!
Community Posting
Through this feature, Webflow users can now not only create custom-designed online community or forum, but also also enable users to post new pages of content (with rich text) on job boards, directories, online courses, & more.
🎨 Full design control in the Webflow Designer
👥 Display OP / author data from Webflow Memberships or Memberstack accounts
⌨ The first ever rich text editor that can be custom-designed in Webflow. No need to embed a widget!
💬 Allow users to comment / respond to posts
To see this feature in action, be sure to check out our demo video below. Also, check out this step-by-step tutorial to learn more about the installation process.
Extra form & member fields
Previously, only author name, comment content, time posted, profile image, & rating could be displayed with comments & reviews. Now, it's possible display up to 3 custom fields from the comment / review form and/or member accounts.
In the example below, we added a custom form input for review subject lines. Also, we added custom fields for displaying members' job & employer data with their author details.
To get started, be sure to check out the following tutorials: Custom form fields, Webflow Memberships custom fields, & Memberstack custom fields.
Reply notifications
Members & guests now have the option to be notified via email whenever someone replies to their comment or review.
To set this up for Webflow Memberships, be sure to check out this tutorial.
For guests, simply go to the feature library in Supersparks and paste the class into a checkbox in the comment / review forms. By checking this box, authors will consent to be notified via the email address provided in the form whenever someone replies to their comment or review. Our notification emails include a link for guest authors to opt out of notifications.
As of now, the design of our email is about as basic as it gets. But we are now working on improving the design. In the future, it will be possible to custom brand this email and will enable in browser notifications as an alternative to email.
Unfortunately, this feature is not available for Memberstack yet.
Guest Profiles Based On IP Address
To further prevent spam from problematic guest posters, we added a setting for tracking IP. Through this feature, it will soon be possible to block certain IP addresses from posting content. In the meantime, the main use case for this setting is described in the next section.
Limit members to one review per CMS item / product
To prevent members & guests from single-handedly skewing average ratings, we added a setting to ensure members & IP addresses can only post one review per product or CMS item.
Show username instead of members' real name
This setting is ideal for keeping members anonymous behind a username, while still allowing guests or members to post comments or reviews.
New & improved content manager
In addition to improving the layout of our content dashboard & content overview popup, we also added a new view to allow site owners to review the content history of each member.
What's next?
Over the next month, we will be focused on improving our community tool & further improving content moderation:
- Premium community templates
- Social features (public profiles, post history, likes, following, & more)
- Community post editing
- Mobile-friendly content dashboard - for those of you who want to check & manage your comments on the go!
- and much more!
